Texas Cigar Brothers for D CEO Magazine

I shot Jim Tate and Mike Makens of Texas Cigar Brothers for the current issue of D CEO. These guys import specially blended tobacco from Honduras to make up their own unique line of incredibly enjoyable cigars. We shot in Mike's thai garden in the mid cities surrounded by a cloud of rich, heady smoke and the occasional savory sip of Nicaraguan rum. A pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon, to be sure.

"Pop Rocks" for Dallas Child Magazine

Last weekend, I shot portraits of three fathers who balance their families with a career in music. This assignment was especially fun because the subjects and the locations were so diverse. My many thanks to Lauren Niebes, Dan Phillips, John Dufilho, Michael Bleecker (and their highly entertaining kids) for the good times.

New Work: Gabrielle LaPlante

I had the pleasure of shooting singer/songwriter/magician's assistant Gabrielle LaPlante for the current issue of Modern Luxury Dallas. We used a friend of Gabrielle's house as a location, and I had to turn this tiny, jumbled music room into a somewhat cohesive and visually appealing set. We shot a second option at the Nylo Hotel Southside.

Chef Chad Houser

Chef Chad Houser is a great dude. Anthony Bourdain, David Chang and Gordon Ramsay (among others) have turned chefs into the new rock stars. It would be understandable, if not downright expected, for a young, celebrated culinary artist like Houser to ride the wave of accolades to personal fortune and franchise. Instead, Houser and fellow chef Janice Provost dreamed up Cafe Momentum: a non-profit organization that trains at-risk youth how to work in a professional kitchen. Since it's inception, Cafe Momentum has been operating as a pop-up, using the kitchens of other, already established fine-dining restaurants to train its pupils. That's all about to change, as Houser and Provost are currently looking for a permanent location that Cafe Momentum can call home.

My thanks to Chad for being a great sport, a willing subject, and a great guy to spend a couple of hours with. Additional thanks to the folks at Boulevardier in Dallas, TX for letting us shoot in their beautiful restaurant.

Dr. Guzman for Fort Worth Child Magazine

For four and half hours, Lauren (my photo editor), Julie (the writer) and I followed Dr Guzman around the Emergency Room at Cook's Children Hospital. It's an interesting dance you do when you're trying to be both in the action and out of the way. Dr Guzman has an inherently easy manner, perhaps the result of his many years performing his tough job. He delivers good news with the same grace he delivers not-so-good news, a talent that would be an asset in any occupation. He was also a very good sport, and used his talent time and time again to make me feel like I was not constantly in the way.

J Charles and The Trainrobbers

A few weeks back, I shot J Charles and The Trainrobbers for their label End Sounds. Drummer Steven Visneau and I have been buddies for years, so I was thrilled to get to spend an afternoon with him and his band mates. I can't tell you how much fun this shoot was. The Trainrobbers are hilarious guys and obviously close friends, carrying with them the atmosphere of a party already underway wherever they go.

Axel is a junior at SMU, and has just curated his first art show at a pop-up gallery in Dallas' design district. He is currently looking for a permanent space to call his own. This was a fun shoot, and I have to give Axel bonus points for jamming Marijata while we worked. Awesome.

Salim Nourrallah for Modern Luxury Magazine

Salim Nourallah is a fixture of the Dallas music scene. I'd heard his name for years, even before my brother became a session drummer at his studio. Somehow, I'd never had the opportunity to actually meet him until I got the assignment to shoot his portrait. Salim is a super gracious host and a cool guy; he was game for anything, despite the fact that he was battling a wicked cold.
